Shang International Education Group (known as Shang Learning) is China’s premier international education solutions provider. Through our life-skills learning center - Shang Academy & educational advisory services - Shang Planning, we offer private families industry intelligence, comprehensive assessment, proprietary skills-oriented curriculum, and independent advisory throughout the child’s development.

All of our educational consultants belong to the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA). This meticulously selected group of educators include IECA board member and committee chairs, trustees and trusted alumni from boarding schools, certified education planners, and experienced teachers.     • A Beijing native with eight years of studying abroad experiences, Nini remains true to her “dudish” northerner personality.

      At the age of 14, Nini left Beijing Jingshan School to begin her journey abroad. She completed four years of high school career at a private boarding school Tabor Academy in Massachusetts, US and graduated as the valedictorian of her class. Nini was accepted early with full scholarship into Princeton University in New Jersey, US, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and East Asian Studies, along with Certificates in Finance and Korean Language. During college, She spent two semesters abroad in South Korea at Yonsei University and Seoul National University, respectively, for intensive language training and senior thesis research.

      Nini interned at JP Morgan Chase & Co’s New York office as an investment banking analyst during her sophomore summer at Princeton. Upon graduation, she began her career as an investment banking analyst at Morgan Stanley’s Hong Kong office. After two years in the finance industry, she decided to switch career upon receiving a master degree from the Journalism and Media Studies Center at the University of Hong Kong, and joined Phoenix InfoNews Channel as an International News Subeditor. Nini subsequently transferred to CNN International in 2009, where she worked as a Planning Producer and Digital Media Producer on live broadcasts and features programs. During her career in media, Nini also worked as a part-time digital brand strategist in the 360° Digital Influence department at Ogilvy & Mather.

      Nini left CNN in early 2012 to build her own digital media company, QI Post Limited, which brings a multi-city perspective to urban living topics for the jet-setting Chinese travelers around the globe. After moving back to Beijing in 2013, she is working on her second venture, Shang Learning, a boutique learning center that provides private families in China industry intelligence, comprehensive assessment, individualized curriculum, and independent advisory throughout the child’s development.

      Nini currently serves as a Board Member for her high school alma mater Tabor Academy. She is the former Chair of Alumni Students Committee for Princeton University overseeing alumni interviews in northern China. She also sits on the Executive Board for JUMP! Foundation, a non-profit social enterprise specializing in experiential education. In 2018, Nini is invited to become an official mentor for Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University. Nini is a certified professional member of the Independent Educational Consultant Association (IECA). She’s been interviewed by various domestic and international media including CNN, GQ, The Economist, New York Times, CCTV, BTV, Studying Abroad, etc.

    • Lei is a cross-cultural educator bridging the youth in both China and the US.

      Born into a family of educators, Lei spent twelve years at Beijing Jingshan School and departed to study English Media and Communications at Macau University when she turned eighteen. During her undergraduate years, she was the Chair of Campus Life Communications for four consecutive terms, organizing cross-border conferences and galas to facilitate conversations between local communities and students from HK and Mainland. Lei was also a founding member of the college newspaper, and spearheaded the production of a cross-cultural themed mini-film named “1112”.

      Upon receiving her bachelor degree, Lei was accepted into the mass communication department at Towson University in the US. Not only did she graduate early from her master program, but she also received a second master from the department of education, and subsequently, the highly competitive teaching certificate to formally embark on an educational career.

      Since college, Lei has assumed various positions in media and education, including an editorial post at the Macau Post, associate producer of the “E-digital” and “Parents Club” for Beijing Education TV Channel, private tutoring positions at six high schools in the US. Lei also founded a Chinese teaching academy, MANDARIN 123,the first and only private institution teaching Chinese language in the Harford County. Her personable and interactive teaching style has gained her a loyal clientele among the local community, an effective channel for insights into US students, culture and cross-cultural pedagogical methodologies.

      Before joining Shang Learning, Lei was the Head Chinese Teacher at John Carroll High School in Maryland, responsible for language teaching as well as campus life for overseas Chinese students. Through this, Lei has accumulated first-hand knowledge on how to best succeed as a foreign student both inside and outside the classroom, making her an invaluable mentor in guiding students to best adapt their academic and lives abroad.

    • Max ZHANG graduated from Carleton College, Magna Cum Laude, with a degree in International Relations. Prior to entering Carleton, Max was the first mainland Chinese graduate of the Hill School in Pottstown, PA. Before Joining Shang learning Shanghai, Max was the assistant director of teaching and faculty in Shanghai New Oriental School. He was also the director of Shanghai New Oriental’s U.S. Middle and High School Learning Center, where he started the company’s practice in preparing students for U.S. secondary schools.

    • Since 1986, Hamilton has worked in a variety of schools in varying capacities. Having attended St. Mark’s School, a boarding School in Massachusetts, he is very familiar with boarding school life. After receiving his master degree in education from Harvard University, he has worked in three boarding schools – The Thacher School in California, The Oregon Episcopal School, Portland and the Leysin American School in Switzerland. He has also worked at international schools in Japan and South Korea, as well as the International School of Beijing as well as Harrow International School in China. Hamilton’s primary focus has been on college and university admission to institutions in the US, UK, Canada and other countries. With his experience in boarding schools in the US and overseas, Hamilton also works with families interested in exploring options for boarding school whether Junior and/or High School.

      Deeply involved in college counseling, Hamilton is a long-standing member of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and the International Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC). He has served on the Current Trends and Future Issues Committee at of NACAC and as President of IACAC for two consecutive terms.

      Hamilton is a Professional Member of the Independent Education Consultants Association (IECA) and he currently sits on the Board of IECA. Hamilton is bound by a strict code of ethical procedures and practices. This year, Hamilton became an associate member of The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS).

    • Lloyd Paradiso who is the Admissions Authority has been doing this work for over forty years. It is precisely as a result of his continuous commitment to the highest standards, his tireless pursuit to comprehend the industry in its myriad manifestations and his insistence on treating every client as his number one priority, that the Admissions Authority has been a prominent choice in educational advising, in school, college and graduate program planning for over four decades.

      Mr. Paradiso's education and experience give him a framework by which he can almost instinctively assess and effectively position a candidate in the academic landscape. A product of both public and private schools during his formative years, he holds a bachelor's degree from Hamilton College, a master's degree from Middlebury College and has completed the coursework (and written examinations) for a doctorate in Educational Administration and Psychological Services at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.

      Mr. Paradiso's history in the field solidifies and enhances his long-lasting relationships with many admission professionals at a vast array of institutions across the country and around the world. His knowledge, education and creativity have lead to numerous partnerships with global organizations such as Exxon Mobil, Hercules, RCA Ariola, Rockwell, Rhone-Poulenc Rorer and Glaxo among others. In addition to education consulting, Mr. Paradiso is an in-demand panelist, speaker and presenter. He frequently takes on various topics regarding education and consulting for audiences at educational conferences, workshops and symposia in the U.S. and around the world. He conducts in-depth corporate training seminars for international businesses to better learn and understand American business practices and he will do the same for American clients in international arenas.

      Mr. Paradiso holds membership in the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the Pennsylvania Association (PACAC), the Southern Association (SACAC) and the International Association (International ACAC). A founder, past president, Committee Chair and Board member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), he holds the designation of Certified Educational Planner (CEP).

    • Patricia O’Keefe is a native Californian who advises select Chinese and Japanese families on the American collegiate admissions process.  Patricia has worked in education for over 13 years and is a member of IECA, NAFSA & TABS.  After graduating from the University of Southern California (USC) with an MBA, Patricia was selected by the Dean of Admissions and Vice Provost of International Affairs to run the USC Global Office Japan.

      In Japan and Korea, Patricia was in charge of USC recruiting efforts, as well as alumni, corporate and government relations.  Patricia also worked with the USC Global Executive MBA program in Hong Kong and China.  For nearly 20 years Patricia worked in Asia and has traveled to over 52 countries throughout the world.

      Prior to USC and working in education, Patricia worked for the Walt Disney Co. in both Japan and the United States translating documents from Japanese to English.

      Patricia has a passion for foreign languages.  She studied Japanese language and culture at Keio University, Japan in 1994 and passed the highest Japanese Language proficiency exam, (JLPT Level 1) administered by the Japanese Ministry of Education in 2009.

      She studied Mandarin Chinese for two years at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and passed HSK level 5 in 2012.  She also studied French at La Sorbonne University in Paris in 2001 just for fun.

      Patricia received her MBA from USC’s Marshall School of Business in 2002. She received her undergraduate degree in political science from UCLA in 1989.

      Patricia understands that international students are a vital intellectual and creative addition to American universities.   She understands the vast challenges that foreign students face while studying in America and she vigilantly prepares students accordingly.

    • Lan Qiong has been engaged in education for 20 years. Mrs. Lan started as a teacher at Beijing Normal University Experimental Primary School. At the time, this school was the forefront of teaching reform in China. Originally, Mrs. Lan was a music teacher and later worked on moral education for students in the school. She later participated in the expansion of Beijing Normal University’s campus. Mrs. Lan likes music and Chinese calligraphy very much, but loves education more.

    • Ta-Wei is an education industry professional from Seattle, Washington with over a decade of education management experience. He graduated from the University of Washington, Seattle, with a degree in Law, Society and Social Policy and a minor in Social Justice.

      While at university, Ta-Wei served roles on the Executive Board for Lambda Phi Epsilon Fraternity, the world’s largest internationally recognized Asian American Interest Fraternity with over 55+ Chapters across North America. As the Brotherhood Chair as well as the Community Service Chair, he frequently spoke as the philanthropic voice of the organization, raising awareness for the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) as well as organizing other community events such as the Walk for Rice, Hiroshima for Hope, Habitat for Humanity, and Adopt-a-Road. Ta-Wei also performed nationally in Step Shows at various cultural awareness and brotherhood events.

      On campus, Ta-Wei was a member of various organizations to include the Taiwanese Student Association (TSA), Khmer Student Association (KhSA), United Greek Council (UGC) and the Intercollegiate Taiwanese American Student Association (ITASA). Being an avid philanthropist, Ta-Wei additionally served as a board member for the Northwest Asian Weekly Foundation, creating opportunities for local youth to develop leadership, diversity and community-building skills in the API community and abroad. Furthermore, to maintain his physical and mental discipline, Ta-Wei served as a military cadet in the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and in the respected Ranger Company.

      Ta-Wei’s educational career began in 2005 as an English teacher for Chung Dahm Learning, South Korea’s largest premier English institute that focuses on the development of critical thinking skills. Within a year, he was given the opportunity to develop curriculum for their reading and writing program used by over 40,000 CDL students across the peninsula. In addition, he took on the role as Head Instructor at a branch school in Seoul, overseeing multiple programs and coaching a team of 20+ foreign instructors. In time, his proven experience would lead him to develop new campuses in various cities across South Korea, to Faculty Management and then eventually culminating as a Senior Faculty Trainer. This post was responsible for maintaining and developing a national network of over 150+ campuses across South Korea as well as overseeing faculty training for over 1000+ new teachers arriving annually.

      In 2011, Ta-Wei came to China as part of a team to develop Global Track, an after-school program affiliated with Beilin International Education. His role as the Faculty Training Manager eventually developed into the Operations Manager, overseeing multiple learning centers across Beijing. Looking for long-term scalability and the potential for further growth both personally and professionally, Ta-Wei learned about the opportunities provided by Shang Learning. Ta-Wei started at Shang Learning as the Director of Studies, responsible for curriculum training and operations. As the success of Shang Learning grew, his role expanded into the Director of Education, responsible for ensuring our young scholars receive the best education and resources as possible in an increasingly competitive and globalized world. Ta-Wei is excited to bring his experiences and expertise to Shang and the future leaders of China and abroad.

    • Samuel Leavitt was brought up in a family of educators. He received his degree from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire where he majored in Politics with a minor in public policy. Samuel was a four-year member of the Division II NCAA McConnell Division Alpine Ski Team. While in his Junior year, Samuel completed a year abroad at Queen Mary University in London where he studied Voter Behavior.

      After graduating, Samuel accepted a teaching and alpine skiing coach position at Mountain Valley High School. After working at MVHS for one year, Samuel accepted a residential faculty member position at Washington Academy. While there Samuel further developed and honed his craft, teaching courses in Early and Modern World History, English Literature and Composition, and International Business to students from over twenty countries world wide. He was also the advisor for Maine Youth in Government and the coach of the track team. Following three years at Washington Academy, Samuel moved to Turkey and taught English as a Second Language at Bahcesehir Koleji Bursa Modern. With Bahcesehir, Samuel taught students from kindergarten to eighth grade and helped to develop curriculum used throughout the network of Bahcesehir schools across Turkey. After which, Samuel moved to Shanghai China to work for The Barstow School, where he has been for the past four years. At Barstow Samuel has acted as Academic Dean. In this administrative role, he has helped hundreds of students receive an American high school diploma and achieve their goal of attending university abroad. Additionally, in his role as Academic Dean, Samuel supervised a team of international teachers, managed student behavior, and oversaw day to day operations of the school. Finally, he also taught courses in History, English, Economics, and Current Events at the Traditional, Honors, and Advanced Placement Level.

      In addition to Samuel’s passion for education, he loves to travel and has visited over thirty countries. While traveling, Samuel enjoys skiing, scuba diving, and exploring local sights and cultural heritage. Samuel was originally brought on to Shang Academy as Lead Educator and used his passion for education, interest in literacy strategies, and global experiences to help students feel comfortable and be successful in the classroom. Within three months Samuel was recognized for his excellence in educational leadership and promoted to his current position as Director of Studies for the Beijing Region.

    Established Boston-based joint venture Shang & Nobles with high-end education consultancy Nobles Prep & Mentoring in Seoul. Shang & Nobles provides US-based guardianship and boarding life consulting services.

  • 2018

    Completed brand upgrade to become Shang International Education Group with multiple business units including Shang Academy, Shang Planning Platform, YES! Test Prep, Shang Solutions and Shang Online.

  • May 2018

    Established Shang Academy’s Curriculum Advisory Board in May 2018. Board members include admission and academic directors at various esteemed boarding schools.

  • June 2018

    Grand opening of the Shanghia satellite classroom in Pudong District, marking the official entry into the Shanghai market.
